PID-5

PERSONALITY INVENTORY FOR DSM-5

The PID-5 is a freely available,

APA-approved instrument, which can be easily used by researchers and clinicians. The PID-5 items and scoring instructions for computing PID-5 domain and trait scales can be downloaded at

https://www.psychiatry.org/psychiatrists/practice/dsm/educational-resources/assessment-measures#section_10

This website provides clinicians with a computerized administration and scoring system for different versions of the PID-5.

The computerized scoring system allows users to obtain:

  • raw scores of PID-5 scales
  • T scores of PID-5 scales
  • percentiles of PID-5 scales

for different versions of the PID-5.

Different assessment situations

may require clinicians and researchers to rely on different version of the PID-5. Depending on the time resources and clinical needs of the client, assessors can select the more appropriate version of the PID-5.

COMPUTERIZED REPORT

This website provides clinicians with a computerized administration and scoring system for different versions of the PID-5.

FLEXIBLE

Users just have to select the appropriate version of the PID-5 for each client based on the specific assessment needs

ACCURATE

PID-5 could be administered accessing the platform or uploading an Excel file: This reduces input errors and scale score calculation errors

FAST

The computerized report immediately provides users with raw scores, T scores, and percentiles for trait and domain scales, as well as T scores graph for visualizing the PID-5 profiles, facilitating scores interpretation.

NATIONALLY REPRESENTATIVE NORMATIVE SAMPLE

Norms are published in the Understanding the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5)

GUARANTEED PRIVACY

The platform DOES NOT ARCHIVE any information about the final user (e.g., patient). The user (e.g., clinician) purchases a set of tokens and associates a progressive number to the individual user, without providing any personal information. At the end of the scoring process, the clinician can download the PDF files related to each administration (responses provided by the client/participants) and the computerized report (raw scores, T-scores, and graphs) and save them.

NORMATIVE DATA

Norms for the 220-item, 100-item, and 25-item versions of the PID-5 were obtained from a sample of 1082 individuals from a US census-matched panel. This is the same panel reported in the original PID-5 development paper (Krueger, et al., 2012). Norms for all PID-5 self-report forms were computed using sampling weights reflecting US census data.

Norms for the informant form were derived from a sample of 360 individuals from the same panel, as described in detail in Markon, et al. (2013).

Details regarding the development of the PID-5 norms are described in the book Understanding the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5).

ADULTS

220-ITEM VERSION OF THE PID-5

This is the full version of the instrument. It is a 220-item self-report questionnaire. Completion of the PID-5 allows to obtain the five dysfunctional personality domain and the 25 dysfunctional personality trait scores. Moreover, the 220-item version of the PID-5 allows to obtain information about the validity of the profile through interpretation of the validity scales (i.e., response inconsistency scale, overreporting, and underreporting scales).

100-ITEM VERSION OF THE PID-5 (PID-5-SF)

This is an abbreviated version of the instrument, developed by Maples and colleagues in 2015. It is the self-report version of the PID-5 suitable for those situations where it is necessary to obtain a profile of the five dysfunctional personality domains and a profile of the 25 dysfunctional personality traits listed in Criterion B, but time is limited.

25-ITEM VERSION OF THE PID-5 (PID-5-BF)

This is the official short version of the instrument, published by the American Psychiatric Asssociation. The PID-5-BF is a self-administered questionnaire and provides a profile of the five dysfunctional personality domains listed in Criterion B. It is the only version of the instrument that allows for computing a total score, indicative of the overall degree of elevation of the profile. It could be used for screening purposes.

218-ITEM VERSION OF THE PID-5 (PID-5-IRF)

This is the informant version of the instrument. This measure is particularly useful for those situations in which gathering collateral information on the client can be helpful or necessary. The PID-5-IRF was developed to be completed by an adult informant responding about another individual he or she knows well.
